BJP Will Take Plaint Against Ugrappa to EC

BENGALURU: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has accused Congress MLC V S Ugrappa of including his name in the voters’ list in Bengaluru “illegally” to vote in the BBMP election, has decided to complain to the Election Commission.

BJP state president and MP Prahlad Joshi told reporters here on Friday that Ugrappa, who had voted at Venkatammanahalli in Pavagada taluk in the recent Gram Panchayat elections, has got his name included in the voters’ list in HSR Layout in the city.

“Ugrappa’s name was included in the voters’ list in Bengaluru on September 3 even before his request to remove his name from the voters’ list in Pavagada was processed. The Regional Commissioner of Bengaluru has acted against the spirit of democracy by including Ugrappa’s name in such a hurry....” Joshi said.

BJP will petition the Election Commission against Ugrappa demanding that his Legislative Council membership be quashed.

The party will also move court in this regard, he said.

Protests Continue

BJP corporators and legislators led by former deputy chief minister R Ashok staged a protest in front of the Town Hall on Friday against the “unholy” alliance of Congress and JD(S) in BBMP.

Meanwhile, Ugrappa clarified that he enrolled his name in the BBMP electoral list after getting his name deleted from the list in Pavagada.

Ugrappa Denies Charges

Strongly refuting BJP’s charges that the inclusion of his name was illegal, Ugrappa questioned the BJP leaders as to whether they have a similar stand on Bharatiya Janata Party  MLC Jaggesh, whose name is still in the electoral list in Turuvekere taluk.
