Extortion-accused Bhaskar Gets Bail

BENGALURU: The 8th ACMM Court on Thursday granted bail to V Bhaskar in connection with a case filed against him by Lokayukta SP Sonia Narang, Bengaluru Division.

Hearing the bail plea, the 8th ACMM Court granted bail on cash surety of `7,500. Bhaskar was the first accused in this case.

On July 24, Sonia Narang had filed complaint against V Bhaskar, an accused in the extortion and corruption in Lokayukta, and the head, editor and others of a local television channel in Vidhana Soudha police station.

In her complaint, filed along with a CD of an audio conversation between an advocate and V Bhaskar, Sonia Narang requested that police take action against Bhaskar and a head of the television channel, accusing them of hatching a conspiracy to tarnish her image and an attempt to malign her.

Wakf Property Scam

The state government on Thursday informed the High Court that a report submitted by the Karnataka State Minorities Commission on the Wakf properties scam will be tabled before both  the Houses of the state legislatureduring the session to be held in February 2016. Additional advocate general A G Shivanna made asubmission in this regard before the division bench of Acting Chief Justice Subhro Kamal Mukherjee and Justice B V Nagarathna during the hearing of a public interest litigation filed by former minister S K Kantha.

The report was submitted to the then chief minister on March 26, 2012, on the alleged scam in wakf propertiesworth `2 lakh crore. Encroachments caused a loss to the Wakf Board.Some of the properties of the WakfBoard were encroached upon and some were sold illegally, causing a loss to the tune of `2 lakh crore to theBoard, the report submitted to the state government says.
