BENGALURU: State Health Minister U T Khader on Saturday said the Department has pitched an idea for the setting up of a separate commission for transgenders and other sexual minorities.
Khader said the bill pertaining to the constitution of a State Commission for Transgenders and Sexual Minorities has been passed in Rajya Sabha and has been presented before the Lok Sabha. “The State government has taken such a decision even before the Union Government could constitute a commission,” Khader said. The welfare commission will also look into jobs and reservation for the sexual minorities, he said.
A national-level conference will be held either in November of the first week of December to discuss issues of transgenders and sexual minorities.
