BENGALURU: This Ganesh Chaturthi, 252 prisoners languishing in various jails are set to be free for their good conduct. The Home Department has reportedly issued the orders on Wednesday in this regard.
The Cabinet, it may be recalled, had recently decided to recommend the names of 253 prisoners, including 2 women, who have completed 14 years of imprisonment and shown good conduct for release. The government had forwarded the list for assent of the Governor.
However, Governor Vajubhai Vala has given his assent for the release of 252 prisoners. The state is witnessing release of prisoners for conduct after a gap of nine years as not a single prisoner was released during the term of previous Governor H R Bhardwaj, who rejected the lists forwarded by the then BJP government.
