BENGALURU: Ashok Nagar police on Wednesday arrested five people, including a woman and a Human Resource manager of a private company on charges of robbing a mechanic to the tune of `10.60 lakh in `2,000 denomination on December 5.
The arrested have been identified as Saleem (32), Shumair Baig (23), Mohammed Baig (48), Thayyab Jahanara (48) and Sudarshan Kumar (49).
According to police, Shiva kumar, a mechanic in private company allegedly collected `10.60 lakh cash in new denominations from different people in his village, near Chennapatna to exchange it old denominations for a commission of `2 lakh. Later, Kumar approached Sudarshan, a human resources manager, who is also his colleague, asking whether he could help him exchange the money.
Sudarshan formed a team with his friend Salim Khan and hatched a plan to rob the money from Kumar. Salim Khan then contacted his friend Shumair Baig, a resident of Kanaka Nagar and explained him about the plot.
Later, Kumar was asked to come near hockey stadium at Richmond Circle with the cash. When Kumar reached the spot, Shumair, who came on a two-wheeler snatched his bag and sped away. Police have seized `9.02 lakh, which were in `2,000 denominations.
