4 held with photocopies of Rs 2k notes

Four people were arrested by the Jnana Bharathi police on Tuesday for transacting in colour photocopies of Rs 2,000 denomination notes.

BENGALURU: Four people were arrested by the Jnana Bharathi police on Tuesday for transacting in colour photocopies of Rs 2,000 denomination notes. The arrested are Shashank (22), Madhu Kumar (19), both residents of Bhuvaneshwari Nagar, and Nagaraj (27) and Kiran Kumar (21).

According to police, Shashank, who works in a mobile phone shop, and Madhu Kumar, an auto driver, came up with a plan to use colour photocopies of Rs 2,000 notes. They copied the notes at a friend’s shop on Bannerghatta Road on December 16.

Police said, “The accused had made 25 colour photo copies of the note and had used them to purchase goods at wine stores and bars. Their luck ran out when Nagaraj, who works for Tata Docomo, and Kiran Kumar, who works as a mechanic for Toyota, went to a wine store and tried to pay for their purchase with a photocopy of Rs 2,000.”

The owner of Varalaxmi Wine Store, H R Nagesh, noticed that it was a fake note and caught hold of the duo and handed them over to the police. Eight such photocopies have been recovered so far.
Jnana Bharathi police have registered a case under Section 489 (b) (using as genuine, forged or counterfeit currency notes or bank notes) and Section 420 (cheating) under the IPC. The arrested have bee remanded to judicial custody.
