4 kill friend, burn body for Rs 10 L in new notes

Four men from Ramanagara town killed their friend and burnt the body just to get hold of `10 lakh in new 2,000 notes. Satthar Ali (41), a small-time businessman, was killed after he was lured to a secluded spot on the pretext of note exchange.

All four have been arrested. Ali, who had cash in new denomination notes, was looking for persons ready to exchange their old notes for new ones for a commission. On Dec 16, the four men, who were known to Ali for years, allegedly called him to exchange notes and offered commission of 30 pc. The accused are Altaf, Moheeb, Sayed Ahmed and Akbar Baig.

The charred body was discovered by locals on Dec 18, who informed police. Police called Ali’s family who had earlier filed a missing complaint. Police checked the call detail records of Ali’s phone and found that the accused had spoken to Ali before his murder. Friends and relatives of Ali staged a demonstration, seeking justice in front of Channapatna police station. The accused have been sent to judicial custody.
