Male Mahadeshwara murder was hundi specialist's handiwork

The Bengaluru police have arrested a 30-year-old man for bludgeoning to death a 60-year-old security guard.

BENGALURU: The Bengaluru police have arrested a 30-year-old man for bludgeoning to death a 60-year-old security guard of the Male Mahadeshwara temple in Nagarabhavi area of Bengaluru on October 5.

The accused, Kumar, is allegedly a habitual felon who specialises in stealing money from temple donation boxes [hundis]. His crime record, as maintained by the Bengaluru police, shows his hand in 40 cases of hundi thefts.

A resident of Kalasipalya and a native of Ramanagar, the hundi specialist has two previous convictions, for which he spent five years in jail.

Police said Kumar was in the process of stealing the hundi at the Male Mahadeshwara temple on October 5 when he was spotted by temple security guard Raju Gowda. In the scuffle, Kumar bludgeoned the guard to death before fleeing the spot.

The Jnana Bharathi police detained over 50 persons for questioning in the sensational case and eventually found that it was Kumar's doing.

Kumar will now be referred to judicial custody.
