Man stabs neighbour to death over petty issue

BENGALURU: A small-time businessman was arrested after he allegedly killed a 55-year-old woman over a petty issue in Srinivasanagar on Wednesday.
Police said the deceased is Shakunthalamma, wife of Marappa. The family also ran a small-time business. A police source said a fight broke out over a plan by the accused Ramesh to widen a road. Ramesh had to cross the victim’s house to reach his residence. But Marappa and his family members opposed widening of the road as it would affect a part of their property. So, whenever Ramesh passed the victim’s house, he would hurl abuses at the family.

On Wednesday afternoon, Ramesh again hurled abuses and this time Marappa reacted. Enraged, Ramesh brought a knife from his house and attacked Marappa, leaving him bleeding profusely. On seeing her husband attacked, Shakunthalamma intervened. Ramesh repeatedly stabbed her, killing her on the spot. The couple’s daughter-in-law Geetha also sustained knife wounds.
While Shakunthalamma was declared dead on arrival at the hospital, Marappa and Geetha are undergoing treatment.
