BENGALURU: Upset over a property dispute, a couple hanged themselves at their house at Nelagatharanahalli in Peenya. The incident came to light on Saturday. Police found a suicide note that blamed one of their relatives for their deaths.

The deceased are Gangadhar (34) and his wife Veena (28). The two were married four years ago and have a one-and-half-year-old son. Gangadhar was a landlord and Veena a housewife.

Police said the incident took place late on Friday night. “We suspect that Gangadhar forced his wife to consume poison and later might have hanged her. Then he also hanged himself after their son slept. The incident came to light when neighbours noticed that the child was crying for a long time and went to see what had happened. They found the couple’s bodies hanging and alerted Peenya police,” said a police officer.

Preliminary investigations revealed that there was a dispute over a property among the relatives and the couple were forced to hand over the property. Gangadhar also had health problems.

Based on a complaint given by Veena’s mother, a case of abetment to suicide has been registered and police are questioning the relative named in the suicide note.

It is also said that the couple were quarrelling often as one of Veena’s friends was visiting their house frequently. His name is also mentioned in the suicide note.
