Proceedings against former KSOU V-C stayed

BENGALURU: The High Court on Friday stayed criminal proceedings against Prof M G Krishnan, former vice-chancellor of Karnataka State Open University (KSOU). Justice Anand Byrareddy adjourned the hearing to September 28.

KSOU authorities had registered a complaint with Jayalakshmipuram police in Mysuru against former vice-chancellors Prof K S Rangappa, currently Vice-Chancellor of University of Mysore, and Prof M G Krishnan, on August 20.

The complaint was based on the recommendations of a fact-finding committee headed by a former High Court judge, appointed by the Governor to look into alleged irregularities in KSOU.

Challenging the complaint, Krishnan contended that there were no allegations or complaints about his involvement in the alleged financial irregularities. The allegations made in the complaint do not constitute an offence levelled under Sections 406 and 409 of IPC, he contended.

It may be noted that the varsity had also initiated criminal proceedings against Prof Rangappa and the High Court has already stayed proceedings against him.
