TV channel reporter tries to extort Rs one crore from bar owner

BENGALURU: Just four days after the CEO of Janasri news channel was arrested for allegedly trying to extort money from a builder, a reporter of the channel and four of his associates allegedly tried to extort `1 crore from the owner of a bar-and-restaurant in Koramangala.

Police said the reporter Pradeep, along with a cameraman and three others, went to the bar on April 18 and consumed alcohol. They also started video-recording the bar girls and other women patrons.

After a while, they threatened the staff that norms were being violated and that the video would will be telecast on the channel. They produced their ID cards and demanded `1 crore. 

The staff alerted their employer  Muniraju who arrived there. Then, the staff allegedly beat up the reporter and two of his friends. Pradeep took them to Koramangala police station to file a complaint, but fled upon reaching there, police said. Muniraju filed a case against Pradeep and his friends. A special team has been formed to nab the five.
