BENGALURU: Electronics City police who are probing Sarath’s death said he had left his phone in his hostel room and had deleted call records and messages. “It is a case of suicide. He kept the phone on a table before going to the seventh floor terrace. We are verifying call records to see if he spoke to anyone before his death,” a senior police officer said.

“We have collected photos of the birthday party where they had been. Some of the apps including Facebook are password-protected,” he added.A student told Express, “I, along with three friends, rushed to the spot where Sarath was lying in a pool of blood. Later, police called two of his friends to record their statements.”

He rarely came out of his room: Friend

Students were unaware of the incident and classes were held as usual. Media personnel were not allowed near the hostel. Some students who came forward to speak to the media were prevented by security guards. Some who came out for food said they were shocked. His friends told Express he would rarely come out from his room. At 11.30pm on Thursday, he seemed normal but the light in his room was not switched off even late at night. Police said his parents told them that they do not want to blame anyone for his death.
