Upset over failing in exams, a 22-year-old engineering student committed suicide at his brother’s house in Coffee Board Layout in Amurthahalli on Monday.

BENGALURU: Upset over failing in exams, a 22-year-old engineering student committed suicide at his brother’s house in Coffee Board Layout in Amurthahalli on Monday. He left no suicide note but the family told police that he was under depression.

The deceased is Sambram, a native of Somavarapete in Kodagu. He was studying in a private college in Karkala. Since he had failed in his previous exams he had stopped going to college and had come to his elder brother’s house.

Police said the incident took place in the evening but came to light only around 11.30 pm when his brother Preetham, who works in a software company, came home from work and saw his brother hanging. He immediately informed his friends and they alerted the ce. The body was shifted to Bowring hospital for postmortem.

In his statement to the police, Preetham said Sambram was depressed as he had failed in two subjects. He was upset over this and his parents had sent him to Bengaluru to prepare for the next examination under his brother’s guidance.

He left no suicide note and the exact reason which led him to take this extreme step is yet to be ascertained, Amruthahalli police said.
