Plastic unit raided, to be ordered shut in Bengaluru

Officials of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) and Health Department of BBMP kickstarted a campaign against plastic bags by shutting down a unit manufacturing them here on Saturday.

BENGALURU: Officials of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) and Health Department of BBMP kickstarted a campaign against plastic bags by shutting down a unit manufacturing them here on Saturday.

KSPCB official K Raju of the Dasarahalli regional ofice, along with Senior BBMP Health Inspector Venkataram inspected the unit belonging to Netharam at Kareem Saab Layout in Hegganahalli ward and seized 12 large gunny bags containing plastic carrybags which did not conform to norms. The unit was operating without permission from KSPCB.

Speaking to Express, Board chairman Lakshman said they are taking up a campaign against such plastic carrybag manufacturing units across the state in associaton with local corporation officials. “We plan to seize such bags and issue closure orders for such concerns. We are keen on ensuring that such bags are removed completely.” “We will issue closure orders on the Hegganahalli unit on Monday,” he added.
