A technical fault at several electrical sub-stations operated by the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) led to power cuts across several areas of Bengaluru on Friday evening.

BENGALURU: A technical fault at several electrical sub-stations operated by the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) led to power cuts across several areas of Bengaluru on Friday evening.  According to Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM), the fault occurred due to a supply failure at 220 Kv stations in EPIP, Hoody, Hebbal and East compound.

The power supply, which was cut off around 7pm, was expected to be restored only later in the night. Areas affected include Malleswaram, Koramangala, Old Airport Road, Infantry road, Victoria Road, Frazer Town, Marathahalli, HRBR Layout, Udayanagar, B Narayanapura and several other sectors. The ‘1912’ helpline was jammed since 7 pm and several customers took to complaining on Twitter.

According to a post shared by @NammaBESCOM on Twitter, the restoration time stated was 10.30 pm. “They are asking for an exorbitant hike in rates but cannot assure power supply in the evenings and nights. Besides such major power cuts, we also see smaller cuts through the day,” said Sujit John, a resident of Koramangala.
