Cops resort to mild caning to disperse crowd

BENGALURU: Tension prevailed outside Parappana Agrahara Central Prisons on Wednesday evening when AIADMK general secretary V K Sasikala surrendered before the special court which is housed on the prison premises.
Police had to resort to mild caning after some people attacked the SUV belonging to Sasikala’s lawyer by throwing stones. The lawyer was seen getting out of the car and rushing into the prison.

Many supporters of the AIADMK leader had gathered outside the prison. Over 300 police personnel, including those from the Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) had been deployed to provide security outside the prisons. Some of them even tried to gain entry inside the prisons by showing photographs of Sasikala and J Jayalalithaa. After the Supreme Court refused extend the time for surrender, Sasikala, along with co-convict Ilavarasi reached the city and appeared before the court after medical check-up.

Another convict, Sudhakaran, also joined them after some time. Sources told Express that Sasikala has been given prisoner number 9234 while Ilavarasi got 9235 and Sudhakaran is prisoner number 9236. Police said that there was a clash between two groups who were shouting slogans against Sasikala.
Meanwhile, those who came in cars just before the AIADMK leaders came to prison were seen engaged in heated arguments with others gathered outside. Some of those cars were damaged in stone throwing. However, no police case has been  filed.
