BENGALURU: Parking mess is back to haunt commuters at Mysore Road Metro station. With a considerable part of parking space now reserved for property development, there is very less space left for parking of vehicles.
“Parking has become very difficult now as the space has shrunk suddenly. We are allowed to park only in the cemented area, which is not sufficient. People from all the neighbouring areas take the Metro, hence the demand for parking space is more here,” said commuter Ragini S.
Commuters are unhappy that only a certain portion of the viaduct allotted for parking. “Only two-wheelers can be parked here. And it is a long walk from the viaduct to the station. It does not make any sense to provide parking space here when they have enough land behind the station,” said another commuter, Sunil Kumar.
People from Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Uttarahalli, Padmanabha Nagar and nearby areas visit Mysore Road station to board trains.
Raghavendra Kanchan from Uttarahalli said lack of parking space inconveniences senior citizens to a great extent. “We sometimes end up spending 15 minutes just in search of parking space,” he added.
When contacted, a BMRCL official said, “About 2 acres of land has been made available where 200 cars and 2,000 two-wheelers can be parked. The remaining 4 acres have been set aside for the property development project.”
“If we see demand for more parking space, we will make suitable arrangements. Meanwhile, we have made space available below the viaducts as well, where about 300-400 two-wheelers can be parked,” he added.
Metro’s property development project aims to exploit BMRCL’s existing land for commercial development.
