BENGALURU: Tension prevailed after a 34-year-old woman along with her two daughters tried to commit suicide by consuming poison inside the City Police Commissioner’s office on Infantry Road on Tuesday afternoon. The woman alleged that Mahadevpura police refused to register a sexual harassment complaint against her husband.
The woman and her two children aged 12 and 14 were rushed to Bowring hospital where they are said to be out of danger. On Monday, the woman had lodged a complaint against her third husband Murali Kumar at Mahadevpura police station but was dissatisfied with the sections that he and his family members were booked under.
On Tuesday morning, she along with her daughters came to the police commissioner’s office and alleged that Mahadevpura police were not properly investigating the case and consumed poison. Mahadevapura police station staff, however, said Murali was booked for charges of dowry, assault to woman with intent to outrage her modesty, criminal intimidation, and voluntarily causing hurt. “She alleged of sexual assault only after going to the police commissioner’s office. Hence, another case against Murali under sections 8, 12 and 15 of POCSO along with sections 67-A and 67-B of the IT Act was booked,” sources said.
Police sources said Murali Kumar has also registered a complaint against the woman and she has been booked for extortion, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace.
Murali has alleged that the woman has been blackmailing him to stay with her or else cough up a huge sum of money.
The woman was deserted twice in the past by her two husbands. She later came in contact with Murali Kumar, a driver by profession and married him. They lived together for a year in KR Puram.
But after the relationship turned sour, Murali also deserted her, and she allegedly started blackmailing him.
