BBMP to pick dry waste twice a week
BENGALURU: Soon, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP) pourakarmikas will pick up wet waste every day while dry waste will be collected twice a week. This is expected to increase the segregation of waste at source.
According to BBMP Joint Commissioner (Health) Sarfaraz Khan, segregation of waste at source has touched 40 per cent in some zones. However, it is not up to the mark, he said.
“By February, we are planning to pick up wet waste all seven days a week, while dry waste will be picked twice a wee,’’ he said.
This apart, BBMP is calling for a tender for solid waste management. “We will insist on garbage contractors to increase segregation to more than 50 per cent, failing which 15 per cent of the bill will be deducated,’’ Khan said.
On garbage generated during the New Year eve celebration, Khan said they will deploy pourakarmikas twice a day at commercial areas such as Brigade Road and MG Road.
