Bengaluru Police nab youth who fled with Uber car to smoke up marijuana

BENGALURU: After a cinematic chase, Bangalore police arrested two persons who had escaped with an Uber-attached car after assaulting the driver and pushing him out of it in the city.
 
The incident took place on January 5 and the accused were arrested on Wednesday. 
 
According to the police, Sheikh Shahnawaz (20), resident of DJ Halli and Syed Abbas (19), resident of K G Halli boarded the cab attached to Uber at 11. 30 PM on January 5. Mid way, the driver Shivanna  stopped the car to attend nature's call and when he returned to the car, the accused threatened him at knife point, pushed him out of the car and fled away with the vehicle. 
 
Subsequently, Shivanna rushed to K G Halli Police Station and filed complaint. In a swift action, four police constables were assigned to track the car. The police, in the process, found out that the assailants
were near Nagawara junction on Wednesday morning around 5.30 AM.
 
Police immediately rushed to the spot and when police personnel came near the car to inquire, Shahanawaz allegedly attacked them with a knife and Syed hit them with a stick. By the time police recovered, the duo had escaped. The police chased them in their bikes and in a hurry, the accused hit the divider and police police eventually nabbed them. 
 
During investigations, it was revealed that the accused had stolen the vehicle to smoke up marijuana. Sheikh Shahnawaz is a habitual offender and a history-sheeter. 
 
The injured police constables are Sana, Kariyappa and Chand Sab Pasha. 
 
The police registered two cases, one for the theft and another for hurting the on-duty officials. The police remanded the accused before magistrate and handed over them to judicial custody.
