Depressed over transfers, BBMP official ends life

Upset over frequent transfers, a 42-year-old Revenue Inspector of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, identified as H C Srinivas, hanged himself at his residence in Srinagara in the city on Monday eve

BENGALURU: Upset over frequent transfers, a 42-year-old Revenue Inspector of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, identified as H C Srinivas, hanged himself at his residence in Srinagara in the city on Monday evening.

Srinivas’ wife Geetha had gone to pick up their children from school at the time of incident. When she returned home, she found him hanging from the ceiling and immediately informed the police. No suicide note was found at the spot. Based on the allegations by the family, Hanumanthanagar police are investigating the case.
According to family members, Srinivas had not gone to work for the last two weeks. He was depressed over his two quick transfers. From J P Nagar, he was recently transferred to Kempegowda Nagar. Within a month, he got another transfer letter posting him to Rajarajeshwari Nagar.

Krishnamurthy, a cousin of Srinivas, told Express, “BBMP councillor D N Ramesh, along with his father-in-law Sadashiva of Sunkenahalli ward (No. 142), was harassing him. The councillor was against his posting to KG Nagar and had threatened him not to take charge. He is responsible for the death of Srinivas.”
D N Ramesh, however, rubbished the allegations. He said, “Relatives of Srinivas are making false allegations against me and my father-in-law. Srinivas was suspended after he was trapped by Lokayukta. Recently, he came to KG Nagar to take charge but his transfer was not in accordance with BBMP norms. Hence, the current revenue inspector did not hand over charge and the issue was forwarded to the Commissioner. He was then transferred to RR Nagar.”
