Bengaluru businessman files plaint against associates for kidnap bid

A 45-year-old businessman approached Banashankari police on Saturday and filed a kidnap case against his business partners.

BENGALURU: A 45-year-old businessman approached Banashankari police on Saturday and filed a kidnap case against his business partners.

Padmanabha, a resident of Banashankari, alleged that on December 28 two men forced him into an autorickshaw and took him to a lodge, where the duo locked him up in a room and threatened him to sign on a few documents.

Police said Padmanabha runs a quarry business in Ballari. He accused his business partners Suryanarayan and Sudhakar of kidnapping him.

In the complaint, Padmanabha explained that he had gone to Vidhana Soudha to meet an officer and while he was heading towards the Legislators’ Home, two men threatened him and forced him into an autorickshaw. He was then taken to SNT Comforts lodge in Upparpet and was locked in a room.

Later, the accused forced him to give a general power of attorney (GPA) of their business to them. Meanwhile, they took his signatures on a few stamp papers and left the lodge. However, the next day (December 29), he managed to escape from the room.

Police said, “We are yet to investigate why the complainant delayed filing a case. As the incident took place in the Vidhana Soudha jurisdiction, further investigation will be done by them.”

Suryanarayan and Sudhakar are natives of Rajahmundry in Andhra Pradesh. The duo had differences with Padmanabha  over the quarry business and were forcing him to issue GPA in their names for the last few months.

The accused have been booked under 341 (wrongful restraint), kidnap (365) and other sections of the Indian Penal Code.

“A special team has been formed to nab the accused. As part of investigation we have collected CCTV footage from the lodge to ascertain the vehicle details,” police said.
