BENGALURU: M S Ramaiah Medical College presented 14 awards to toppers in individual subjects and 22 endowment awards on Tuesday

Dr Badrinath R Konety, a professor at the University of Minnesota and an alumnus of MS Ramaiah, addressed the graduates during the award function.

He said, “One of the core requirements for any individual, particularly a doctor, is integrity. Our value system is what anchors our conscience and keeps us honest... If this principle is corroded, the foundation of our profession will crack.  There are many temptations that we face and you will face as doctors — practice challenges, drug companies wanting you to prescribe their drugs, influence peddling, malpractice, unnecessary self-referral, cut practice, shadow practice etc.”

Chandana Udayakumar, who topped MBBS for the year 2011, said, “I studied six hours every day to achieve this. I am going to take up paediatrics or radiology after this. Unlike many, I do not plan to go abroad but study in a college in Bengaluru.” Devesh Sanjeev Ballal was also an MBBS topper the same year.

Samarth S Gowda won the best outgoing student for overall academics for 2014. Harsha V Patel won the Dr Sunita Movva Award for best outstanding final year student, 2014.
