No relief for Bengaluru Congress MLA in Slapgate case

In a major setback to Congress MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar, the High Court on Tuesday refused to quash the FIR and further proceedings against him.

BENGALURU: In a major setback to Congress MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar, the High Court on Tuesday refused to quash the FIR and further proceedings against him pending before a trial court for allegedly attacking two constables on duty at a lounge bar located in UB City.

Disposing of his petition, Justice Anand Byrareddy asked Hungund MLA Kashappanavar to face trial before the lower court in the city.

In his petition, Kashappanavar contended that the complaint filed against him was politically motivated and that there was a delay of seven hours in filing the same. Government advocate Chetan Desai told the court that the assault on the cops was recorded in CCTV cameras.

Cubbon Park police had registered a case against Kashappanavar and his supporters for allegedly assaulting the police constables on July 1, 2014.

Kashappanavar, his supporter Somegowda and others allegedly assaulted Prashanth Nayak and Kiran Kumar, who had gone to the lounge bar to check on the noise. Local residents had complained about noise from the lounge bar when Kashappanavar was having his birthday party.
