BENGALURU: A girl was allegedly molested and assaulted by a mob on Ballari road near the Kempegowda International Airport on Sunday night.

The victim--a student in the city and a resident of Thindlu--and her male friend were reportedly travelling on a bike when the incident occurred at the service road near the toll gate on Ballari road.

The victim told Express, “We were travelling from Soul Sante when a man stopped us at the service road near A2B at 8.30 pm. On being questioned as to why stopped our vehicle in the middle of the road, he started abusing us in Kannada. I asked him to speak in either Hindi or English as we could not follow the local language following which he snatched the bike keys and around 40-45 people surrounded us. They started slapping and hitting my friend. He tried to resist but could not as they outnumbered us. I tried to save him too, but they gathered around me and started molesting me. They touched me all over my body, pushed me on the ground. They threatened me with dire consequences when I tried to shout for help. They asked us to kneel down and apologise for not being familiar with Kannada despite living in Karnataka. And we gave in eventually as we did not have any other option to get out of the situation. It was a terrifying experience.”

The girl also said she called her mother and informed her about the episode soon after the incident, who immediately called the police. However, the mother could not give the exact location of the two.

The police have registered against four people. Additional commissioner of police (East) Hemant Nimbalkar said four men named Manjunath, Ravi, Krishna and Praveen have been arrested and produced before the Court based on the victim's complaint.
