BENGALURU: Apple Inc will soon begin initial production of iPhone SE in the city. The much awaited operations of the company from the city follows a series of state and national-level meetings spanning across several months.

In February, Minister for IT and BT Priyank Kharge had announced that the operations were likely to begin by April-end.

Minister for Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Development R V Deshpande said, “Our government has assured full support for Apple’s manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. There was stiff competition among states to get this project. The fact that Apple chose Karnataka has  affirmed the state’s investment attractiveness and business-friendly environment. We expect that this investment will boost job creation and enrich innovation and technology ecosystem in the state.”

According to the company, a small number of iPhone SE will be produced in the city to begin with. The phones, which are at present priced around Rs 26,000, will be manufactured at Peenya in the city by Wistron, a Taiwanese OEM for Apple.
