Student scores 65, gets just 15

BENGALURU: AN evaluation mistake has cost a second year Pre-University student 50 marks. Not just that, the student was also declared ‘fail’ in a subject, in the recently announced results.
Prajwal, a student of Sri Virendrapatil PU College located at Sadashivnagar, had passed with good marks in all subjects but failed in English. Since he was confident that he had attempted the paper well, he contacted his lecturers. “I took their advice and applied for a scanned copy of the answer sheet and got the same on Friday.”

To his surprise, he found out that he had actually secured 65 marks. In the front page of the booklet, the evaluator had entered the total marks as 15 in numeric and 65 in words.

Prajwal immediately contacted the department officials, but they asked him to apply for revaluation. “It is not my mistake. Why should I apply for revaluation? Revaluation costs `1,260 per paper. Why should I spend my money for their mistake?” asked Prajwal.

However, the department officials said they cannot change the marks unless he applies for revaluation. “Marks can be altered or changed in the markscard only if he applies for revaluation,” a senior official said.

Rush at PUE department

Hundreds of parents and students had gathered near the PUE department on Friday as they were yet to receive scanned copies of the answer scripts, though they had applied for it 15 days ago. Many parents and candidates demanded for an offline copy, but were denied. “We can’t give offline photocopies as we have stopped the practice. We are uploading the scanned copies online and students can download them,”  an

official said.
“After getting the copies of answer scripts, I have to apply for revaluation. By then, the CET results will be out and if there is any change in my marks, I have to approach them again to change my CET ranking. The process is tiring,” a student said.

What dept says

The staff working with the scanning department said it has become a tedious task for them to trace the answer scripts as they are getting too many requests every day. The department has received 84,500 applications seeking scanned copies and the department has uploaded 73,600 copies. “All the scripts will be made available in next two days,” said an official. Considering the delay in uploading the answer scripts, the department has extended the last date to download the scanned copy of answer scripts. Students can now download their scanned copies till May 29 and last date to apply for revaluation and re-totalling has been extended to May 31.
