Depressed over son’s death, man commits suicide

A 45-year-old man committed suicide owing to depression over his son’s recent death, on Wednesday.

BENGALURU: A 45-year-old man committed suicide owing to depression over his son’s recent death, on Wednesday. Manjunath (45), a resident of KSRTC Layout in Maruti Nagar, hanged himself at a fancy store owned by him on Monday night. His son Shashi, who was studying PUC in Davanagere, had died two months ago.

According to a police official, Manjunath left home on Monday and told his wife Chandrakala that he would be back within one hour, and asked her to go to sleep. When Manjunath did not return until Tuesday evening, Chandrakala approached the police. The police asked her to produce her husband’s photograph.

On Wednesday around 9.30 am, she went to the shop to get the photograph. She found the shutter to be locked from inside, and also detected a foul smell coming from inside.
She raised an alarm and people who gathered there opened the shutter, and found Manjunath’s body. Chandrakala told the police that her husband had been depressed over their son’s death for the past two months. Police have registered a case at the Byadarahalli police station.
