BENGALURU: Two men were robbed by a gang of unidentified men in separate incidents in the city on Tuesday night. Incidentally, both were accosted by the gang on the pretext of inquiring about an address before they were robbed of cash and other valuables. Police suspect that the robberies are the handiwork of the same gang.
Govindraju, an employee in a garment factory, was robbed by a gang of three at Ambedkar Nagar near Annapurneshwari Nagar. Police said an unidentifie man asked for an address when he was Govindraju was returning home from work at 11.30 pm. When Govindraju stopped, two other men approached him on a bike, threatened him at knifepoint and snatched `3,000, his ATM cards and wristwatch before fleeing.
In the second incident, two bike-borne men robbed Palani, a resident of Kurubarahalli, near Mahalakshi Layout Metro station. Palani was walking back home around 12.30 am when two men stopped him to inquire about an address. They then threatened him with a knife and made away with `3,500. Palani managed to escape from them when they tried to snatch his mobile phone. The robbers fled before he could raise an alarm.
A senior police officer said, “CCTV footage shows the robbers were not wearing helmet and had not covered their faces. We suspect the same gang might be involved in both the cases.”
