BENGALURU: The owners of 10 horses have moved the Karnataka High Court seeking directions to the state government to re-start the horse race at the Bangalore Turf Club (BTC) by renewing license of horse races and to protect the livelihood of thousands who are facing imminent unemployment. The impasse between the state government and the management of the BTC resulted in the closure of  horse racing in Bengaluru and an unfortunate end to a 154 year glorious tradition connected with the city, the petitioners said. Hearing the petition, Justice A S Bopanna ordered notice to the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretaries of Home and Finance Departments and also to the the BTC Ltd.

Stating that the chances of the race horse owners abandoning the horses would become a harsh reality if license is not renewed, the petitioners contended that BTC is not performing its duty to apply for and secure the renewal of the license. Hence, it is affecting the livelihood of horse owners depending upon the race held.
