Every one automation will create 10 jobs: Prof S Sadagopan

The much hyped new age technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Analytics are neither new nor will they take away jobs, as has been feared.

BENGALURU: The much-hyped new age technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Analytics are neither new nor will they take away jobs, as has been feared. These concepts have existed in the past too. The Indian industry is over-glorifying machines, said Prof S Sadagopan, Director (President) of IIIT-Bangalore. He was addressing the gathering at the Digital Innovation Conclave hosted by IFIM institution here on Friday.

Speaking about the future of jobs and the expansion of automation, Sadagopan said that automation is not the end of the road for human employment. The automation threat is real but there is nothing to worry about it. Every automation creates ten more jobs, Sadagopan added. “While everyone is talking about big data and analytics, the real big data is yet to come. We are at an early stage of analytics,” he said. Speaking about robotics, he said they will be in the form of softwares in future.

The institute organised the conclave to bring out a white paper on the relevance of the curriculum taught at present in engineering colleges. Emphasising the need for a change in engineering curriculum to cope with new age technology, IFIM institution in co-ordination with Nasscom and AICTE is bringing out a set of guidelines for colleges across the country. This white paper, which will be ready in the next eight months, will be presented to the AICTE recommending syllabus revision.
