The incident happened around 7am when Narasamma went to attend nature’s call next to the drain, and she slipped and fell into it. She was pushed by the force of the water into a part of the drain which was covered with concrete slabs, and could not save herself. Her relatives, who were alerted by a neighbour, recovered her body some metres away.

Elsewhere in the State, in Ramanagara, Nandish (36) was washed away in a river, allegedly while taking a selfie. He was with his friends at the edge of a sand mining pit at Jogi Doddi village, when mud around the pit collapsed. Although four of them fell into the river, Nandish was dragged away by the raging water and search is on for him.

In Kolar district, a 65-year-old man died when a portion of his house collapsed following heavy rainfall. At Kumbrapete in Malur taluk,  one person drowned after falling into the drain.
Meanwhile, the body of Pushpa, who was washed away along with her mother Lingamma on Friday evening at Kurubarahalli, was recovered in Vrishabawathi River at Kumbalgodu. Search for Lingamma is still on with the State Disaster Response Force personnel joining the operation.

Now, for the forecast. Bengaureans can expect some relief. Rain-battered Bengaluru may see more showers but the intensity is expected to reduce. With the South West monsoon categorised as ‘active’ in parts of South-interior Karnataka and ‘vigorous’ in coastal region, more showers are forecast over the course of the week. The intensity of rainfall is expected to reduce from fairly widespread to scattered - resulting in reduced showers in the next two days.

Sundar Metri, Director, Indian Meteorological Department, Bengaluru, said that isolated spells of heavy rainfall were likely during the late hours of Sunday night in several parts of the State.
Forecasts indicated that rainfall will be scattered in interior Karnataka from Monday, while it will still be fairly widespread in coastal Karnataka. Though the South West monsoon generally withdraws from the State by October 15, this year it is still active.
