Four held for 7.5 kg gold haul at city airport

Two Jordanians who tried to smuggle 6.5kg of gold in secret pockets inside their trousers were nabbed by Air Intelligence Unit of Customs at Kempegowda International Airport on Tuesday.

BENGALURU:  Two Jordanians who tried to smuggle 6.5kg of gold in secret pockets inside their trousers were nabbed by Air Intelligence Unit of Customs at Kempegowda International Airport on Tuesday. On the same day, two other people attempting to smuggle around 1kg of gold were also held. In the first case, the gold worth `1.99 crore was seized from two Jordanian passengers. The arrested are Abdel Rahman JA Rizik Al Dardasawi, who had arrived from Dubai.

The air intelligence team zeroed in on another Jordanian passenger, Saleh Talal Yousef Herzallah, with a similar travel itinerary. He too had 3.25kg gold in secret pockets of his trousers. They said that they were engaged by a mutual friend in Jordan to meet a person who would hand over a packet of gold to them to be delivered in India.

On Tuesday evening, Customs officials found 950 grams of gold worth `29 lakh concealed under a seat, while rummaging a flight from Dubai, which was proceeding on a domestic leg of the flight. From the tubing under the seat occupied by K Naushad, a native of Kozhikode.
