Mystery to explore hidden depths of intimacy

BENGALURU: Relationships and their dynamics interest director Susanto Banerjee the most. His play ‘The Flame’ by Ventures unveils the dynamics and chemistry between intimate relationships through a mystery.  Susanto is a senior finance professional in an MNC, by the day, and a director and actor by passion.

In the story, Mrinmoy, the elder son of Sanyal family had met with an accident soon after his marriage and has since been confined to a wheelchair.  He get support from nurse, Ranjana.  Mrinmoy does not allow his wife Urmi, to take care of him physically, despite her love being his biggest inspiration to live. After his accident, he has shielded Urmi from the day-to-day realities of his bedridden condition.
All characters in the play have significant roles and they travel a complex journey as the story unfolds over an evening and next day morning, says Susanto.  “Personally, I identify the most with Mrinmoy. I like the perspective that Mrs Sanyal presents, and I am intrigued by the complexity that Urmi goes through,” he adds.

The characters share intimate relationships and through the mysterious twists and turns in the story, they unveil their perspectives on life and their relationships, informs the director. The best thing about the “The Flame”, the director feels  is that it creates multiple emotional moments as the story unfolds. “As a director, my job was to ensure that each of these moments are captured and presented in the right emotional tone,” he says, adding, “My actors have done a splendid job and together we bring them out successfully”.

The Bengali version of “The Flame” was presented in Jagriti, titled as “ Khub Kacher” . “Khub Kacher was greeted with exemplary comments, which prompted me to stage the same story in English so that it gains a wider reach,” says Susanto.
