BENGALURU: Here is a good news for mudde lovers. Soon, all the Indira Canteens run by Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) will serve raagi mudde with authenticated soppsaaru or bassaaru. For `10, one mudde weighing 250 grams plus the saaru along with rice will be served. Plans are there to introduce variety of foods that are tastier and healthier.

“You can also expect payasa for lunch/dinner, palak idli for breakfast and pickles at Indira Canteens in near future,’’said BBMP special commisisoner Manoj Rajan. He looks after Indira Canteens in the city.

“As suggested by agriculture minister Krishna Byregowda, we wanted to introduce ragi in our menu. We contacted Central Food Technological Research Institute(CFTRI) authorities last month, and they have developed an automated machine for us which can make 250 ragi mudde in one hour. These ragi mudde will be more hygienic as they won’t be prepared using hands. Each ragi mudde will weigh 250 grams,’’ he said, adding CFTRI authorities have been asked to develop machines with higher capacity.

At present, the ragi mudde-making machine is used at the kitchen in Byatarayanapura. “Three to four wards are being served with mudde for lunch on trial, and we have received a good response till now. We will continue doing this for the next 10 days. Thereafter, phase-wise, ragi mudde will be introduced at other Indira Canteens as well,” the civic body official added.On an average, 2.25 lakh people eat at 168 Indira Canteens daily.
