BENGALURU: An alert security guard of Chemmanur Jewellers in Rajajinagar thwarted a robbery bid by opening two rounds of fire after a gang tried to enter the shop after attacking another security guard with three petrol bombs. The incident took place around 6.20 pm on Monday. A case has been registered.
Nanjappa, a security guard, was injured in the incident. According to police, three to four miscreants tried to enter the jewellery store in the evening. When the security guards — Nanjappa and Vijay — tried to stop them, they attacked Nanjappa leaving him injured.

The store manager, Shaji Thomas said the staff noticed some three to four men trying to enter the shop and Nanjappa trying to stop them. “As they started attacking Nanjappa, we started screaming. Meanwhile, another guard Vijay came out and acted immediately. He shot two rounds from his rifle. Fearing they would be shot, the miscreants escaped,” he said, adding that he had witnessed a similar incident in September 2012 in the same store. The 2012 case still remains unsolved.
