Karnataka Sanskrit University to have exchange programmes for students, faculty

BENGALURU: The Karnataka Sanskrit University is all set to have student and faculty exchange programmes with foreign universities. Considering the proposals submitted by the foreign universities, the Sanskrit University has agreed to introduce the exchange programmes from the coming academic year.
Ghent University, Belgium has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sanskrit university and a few other proposals are pending for consideration. "We have also entered into agreements with several Indian universities for student and faculty exchange programmes," said Prof Padma Shekar, vice-chancellor of Sanskrit University.

Even six years after it was established, Sanskrit University has no campus of its own. Though the state government has provided 100 acres of land near Magadi, the university has not taken measures to build a campus due to shortage of funds. 

Minister gives annual convocation a miss
Higher education minister Basavaraja Rayareddi skipped the Sanskrit University convocation held on Tuesday.  The university authorities said they received a message from him late on Monday night that he will not be able to make it to the convocation. Governor and Chancellor Vajubhai Vala issued degrees to students in the presence of senior Sanskrit scholar and Jnanpith awardee in Sanskrit Prof  Satyavrata Shastry.
