BENGALURU: Just a day after KSRTC security staffer Siddu Hugar died in a road accident even as passersby chose to film him instead of calling for help, a Good Samaritan who stopped to assist two accident victims was fatally knocked down by a speeding vehicle.

The incident, which claimed the life of 29-year-old truck driver B S Raghavendra, occurred at the NICE Road exit near Kengeri on Monday night. Police are now on the lookout for the driver of the killer vehicle.
Raghavendra, a native of Channapatana, is survived by his wife Tanuja and two children, Nayan (6) and Nikhitha (4).

According to police, Raghavendra was heading towards Kanakapura in his truck around 2.20 am on Monday when he saw two men on a two-wheeler — Girish (23) and Abhishek (24) — crash into the parapet of the flyover and fall on the road. As they screamed for help, Raghavendra stopped his truck by the roadside and got down to assist them. While he was walking towards them, a speeding vehicle knocked him down, killing him on the spot.

The shocked duo, who Raghavendra had ventured to help, immediately raised an alarm. However, they failed to take note of the vehicle registration number.  After a while, NICE patrolling staff noticed the accident and rushed Raghavendra and the bikers to a private hospital where Raghavendra was declared brought dead.

The injured are being treated for minor injuries at Victoria Hospital in the city.
Girish and Abhishek, residents of Jayanagar in the city, had gone for a ride on their brand new two-wheeler and Girish was riding it.

Their accident is believed to have been caused owing to over-speeding as Girish lost control of the bike.
Meanwhile, in their statement to the police, the duo said a lorry hit Raghavendra and also scraped the barrier before speeding away.

“We are verifying CCTV camera footage at the toll booth to identify the vehicle and the driver and we will take action,” an officer from Kengeri Traffic Police station said.

Ramesh B, an uncle of Raghavendra, told The New Indian Express, “It was his routine night shift and he was going to unload debris near Kanakapura. He had called his wife and children in the evening and had informed that he would come return home by 5 am after work. Also, one of his friends Dileep had also spoken to him around 12.30 am.”
