‘Forage’ for healthy food

BENGALURU : If you want to grab a healthy meal after a workout session at the gym or to keep up with that diet, head to Forage in Indiranagar. The restaurant, which has a comfy and cosy atmosphere in the midst of the busy streets of Sixth Main Road, serves food at its freshest. What impresses us is the staff’s in-depth knowledge on the ingredients and their sources. The four-course menu starts with salads, followed by Tapas, (savoury dishes) Something Hearty, as they call it, and dessert, of course. The food is light on the stomach but satiating. The menu has lot of options for the vegetarian.

If you like salads, do try Beet and Orange Salad, which has a good combination of flavours and textures – bitterness of the greens, citrus from the oranges, sweetness of the dressing and crunchiness of walnuts. The freshness is what lingers on. Garnished with pomegranate and mint leaves, the Aubergine Crostini has a charred and slightly little bitter taste , with a tinge of garlic. The Sourdough Bread has an enticing, tangy flavour, and is said to have been fermented using naturally-occurring lactobacili and yeast.

The Soupy Lamb, a millet dish, has cubed shoulder of lamb and spinach. The meat is soft with tender flavours, with a strong pepper-y flavour. The spinach is a good add-on to the dish, along with the fresh herbs. The Jalapeno Mushroom Pasta is a good main, with that predominant earthy flavour of mushrooms and spiciness of jalapeno, topped with parmesan and lime.

The Green Bottle Spaghetti has pasta made from bottlegourd, with sweet red peppers, coarse black pepper and shaved parmesan. The mild flavours complement the vinegar and cheese, the dish is topped off with.
For desserts, try the Chocolate Torte or Pannacotta. Being chocolate lovers, we loved the torte, which has crushed almonds and is prepared with olive oil, real cacao and raw cane sugar, topped with pieces of orange. The bitterness of the cocoa is balanced by the sweetness of coconut milk. The Pannacotta is made using basil, honey, coconut milk and lemon. The consistency is spot-on, with milky, floral and nutty flavours.  Cost for two: `1,500
