BENGALURU: How many times have you been forced to abandon your plan because you could not find a parking slot? Motorists often feel harassed over parking their four-wheelers when on an outing in Bengaluru. And this often forces people to keep their vehicles at home even when they had initially planned to take it out to accommodate the family.

All kinds of solutions have been tried; but now a digital solution to parking woes has arrived through a corporate endeavour — something the civic bodies have repeatedly failed at. Here is an app that can help drivers find parking spaces easily.

A three-year-old start-up, Get My Parking (GMP), acquired another start-up in the parking solutions domain called Constapark earlier this year to provide solutions which will digitise the whole parking process.

The solution involves multiple parking spaces set up at a particular location. Here, motorists subscribing to this app will be helped to get parking, either by reading an installed radio-frequency identification (RFID) chip, near-field communication (NFC), or a quick response (QR) code sent to the user.

It helps motorists find the nearest available car park and it enables ticketless, automated access and cashless and a transparent billing system. Some pilot projects are already launched within private commercial complexes to assess the feasibility of this project. This will be extended to several locations, said Rasik Pansare, Chief Marketing Officer (CMO), GMP. The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is Chirag Jain. Constapark (founded by Chetan Chauhan and Mehul Pangtey in 2015), now acquired by GMP,  already manages 30,000 parking spots on its platform and parks 4,000 vehicles on a daily basis across Bengaluru.

These pilots are being undertaken in Koramangala, MG Road and Whitefield. However, it is open only to a closed group of people working in some commercial establishments in these areas.

Parking problem

At least 20 minutes are wasted per drive in search of parking spaces in Bengaluru and 60 per cent of plans are dropped due to non-availability of parking. With Get My Parking, one will spend 43 per cent less time looking for parking. Advance bookings can also be made.
