Metro security guard detained for pasting device under seat

Preliminary investigation has established that the suspicious device was a Bluetooth and police officials are questioning the accused why he pasted it in the station.

BENGALURU:A 24-year-old security guard working in Namma Metro station has been detained by the Indiranagar police on charges of pasting a suspicious device beneath the passengers seat on a platform at Indiranagar Metro Station. Preliminary investigation has established that the suspicious device was a Bluetooth and police officials are questioning the accused why he pasted it in the station.Vannankandy Saron, a security personnel from a private agency, is the one who has been detained. Saron hails from Kerala and was deputed at MG Road Metro Station.

According to the police, the incident took place on Saturday evening and came to light during a security check. Assistant Security Officer, Devaiah, found a suspicious device pasted beneath the passengers’ seat on platform number 2 of the Indiranagar Metro Station in the evening.They verified the security cameras to find out who had pasted the device and found that Saron, who was deputed at MG Road Metro Station, and saw him pasting the device at 4.58 pm. Later, they lodged a complaint with the police. “Saron was picked up based on their information but he claimed the device did not belong to him.

The Forensic Science experts were called in to check the device and they have found out that it is a Bluetooth beacon used to transfer files and as a WiFi hotspot. However, we are questioning Saron and further investigating to know his motive,” the police said.Saron has been booked under the provisions of the Metro Railways (Operations & Maintenance) Act 2002 and Section 283 (danger or obstruction in public way or line of navigation) of the IPC.
