BENGALURU: A physically-challenged ex-serviceman-turned-bureaucrat has moved the High Court against the state government for permitting him to take voluntary retirement, though he had applied for supernumerary post as per Section 47 of Persons with Disability Act 1995.

The petitioner is 58-year-old G K Purushotama, former Under Secretary, Karnataka State Election Commission, residing at Someshwaranagar, Yelahanka New Town.

He filed the petition against the Karnataka State Administrative Tribunal (KSAT) which upheld the order of permitting the petitioner to take voluntary retirement.

Hearing the petition on the ground that the order dated April 27, 2017 passed by the KSAT was illegal and arbitrary, Justice A S Bopanna ordered notice to the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR). In his petition, Purushotama submitted that if the KSAT’s order is given effect to, persons like him who served the nation for unity and integrity and persons with disability would be put to great hardship and inconvenience.

Hence, the order of KSAT be quashed, he urged.
