Other clubs too do a rethink on locker use

The incident at Bowring Institute has raised questions on the possibility of lockers at other clubs too being misused.

BENGALURU: The incident at Bowring Institute has raised questions on the possibility of lockers at other clubs too being misused. And, as Bowring Institute has confirmed that the usage of lockers will be changed to prevent any such incident, it could result in other clubs also changing rules pertaining to locker usage.

Indiranagar Club claims to have a foolproof system to prevent misuse of lockers by a simple arrangement — the club’s staff members have duplicate keys for every locker. President of the Club and former Additional Commissioner of Police B N S Reddy said Bowring Institute could have prevented such an incident from occurring had it been in possession of duplicate keys. “If members know someone else too can access the locker, they will never leave anything valuable in it,” he said.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Bangalore Turf Club (BTC) Harimohan Naidu said only jockeys are provided lockers at BTC, not the members. The jockeys have possession of the keys to their lockers, and Naidu was not aware whether the club’s staff members had duplicate keys. However, in the light of the Bowring Institute incident, he said the issue will be discussed at a committee meeting on Monday.
