BENGALURU: A new app being developed by Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) will enable you to reserve your ticket on the 612 trips made by Vayu Vajra buses between the city and the airport. At present, 88 air-conditioned buses make 304 trips from the city to the airport (up route) and 308 run in the reverse direction, making it a financially viable route for the corporation.

A senior BMTC official told The New Indian Express, “We plan to start this seat reservation facility for employees of all IT parks in the city as well as along the airport route. Air-bound passengers travel between 1 and 1.5 hours either to or from the airport in our buses. The idea is to increase their comfort by ensuring that they have seats during the long trip.”

The existing app is being revamped with the new one and is expected to have many passenger-friendly features. “We are looking at starting it first for the Manyata Tech Park employees. Most of them have monthly passes between their workplace and home. The pass details can be entered using the app and then seats can be booked,” he said. BMTC plans to extend it to other IT parks but it depends on the patronage it gets, he added.

This will be permitted on three or four buses of their choice from their offices to their homes, the official said.“We are still working on the logistics. Software developers are waiting for us to give the green signal on all the features. Initially, the seat can be reserved only for the (starting) terminal points,” he said. Our ultimate objective is to extend the facility to the starting points of all BMTC buses across the city, the official added. The app will also help in first and last mile connectivity by creating provisions to book autorickshaws and cabs, the official said.
