High Court orders notice to state over PIL

A Chikkaballapur resident has filed a public interest litigation before the High Court seeking a stay on the Koramangala Challaghatta (KC) Valley project that supplies Bengaluru’s treated sewage water

BENGALURU: A Chikkaballapur resident has filed a public interest litigation before the High Court seeking a stay on the Koramangala Challaghatta (KC) Valley project that supplies Bengaluru’s treated sewage water to drought-prone areas of Kolar, Bengaluru Rural and Chikkaballapur districts.

The petitioner pointed out that the state did not have the advanced technology to treat the effluents released by industries in the city itself, but was still supplying the treated sewage water to the districts, thus putting people’s health at risk.

After hearing the petition, the court ordered notice to the Chief Secretary, Minor Irrigation Department, Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, Central Ground Water Board and the Energy and Wetland Research Group.
