BENGALURU: A 55-year-old employee of a private company died while three others were injured after their speeding Maruti Omni car fell into a pit on Hosur Road near Surya City. Reckless driving is blamed for the mishap. The deceased is Paramashivam, a resident of Koramangala. He was working for an automobile company. The injured are Bhaskar V and Sathish Kumar, residents of Adugodi.

According to police the car attached to the company was being driven by Sathyraju. Four of the employees were picked up for the morning shift from Adugodi and Koramangala. They were passing through Thirumagondanahalli near Hebbagdi around 6.30am when Sathyraju lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a barricade kept around the pit which was dug up for a skywalk. The vehicle then toppled into the pit and Paramashivam died on the spot. Sathyaraju is critical. Passers-by helped the injured before alerting the police and the car was lifted from the pit using a crane. The traffic was also affected on the busy highway for a while.

One of the injured Sathish Kumar said in his complaint, “The pit was dug by National Highway Authorities of Indian (NHAI) to build a skywalk and work here was stopped a month ago. The pit was partially covered with old barricades. The negligence of the NHAI is to be blamed as they had dug the pit on a highway with no proper safety measures. We were heading towards the company located on Tamil Nadu border when the accident took place. I was thrown out of the car due to the sheer force and the door got separated from the vehicle.”
