Cop promises PSI’s job, cheats man of Rs 5 lakh

A police constable attached to Centre Armed Reserve (South) has been accused of cheating a person of Rs 5 lakh after promising a civil police sub inspector’s job for his son. 

BENGALURU:A police constable attached to Centre Armed Reserve (South) has been accused of cheating a person of Rs 5 lakh after promising a civil police sub inspector’s job for his son. The Central Crime Branch (CCB) has been directed to investigate the case.

Bharamanath Ningappa Mali is the constable who has been accused of cheating Thippanna Kedara Mali of Vijayapura.According to the complaint filed by M H Manjunath Chowdari, ACP of the Fraud & Misappropriation squad of CCB, Mali, who also hails from Vijayapura, had promised Thippanna of getting his son selected in the civil PSI’s exam and had demanded Rs 30 lakh for it. Finally, the deal was settled for Rs 25 lakh. In August 2017, Thippana had reportedly given him the cash at a lodge on Subedar Chatram Road. When the results were out in November, however, Thippanna’s son was not selected.

“After Thippanna demanded to return the money several times, Mali had returned Rs 20 lakh in installments. However, he did not return the remaining Rs 5 lakh and started avoiding Thippanna. Recently, he met the City Police Commissioner seeking justice and the case was entrusted to the CCB for further probe and an FIR has been registered in Upparpet police station. Preliminary inquiry has established that the constable has cheated Thippanna and he will be suspended soon,” the police said.
