Changed my mind when son questioned me: Realtor

Says he decided not to kill children when son asked why he was doing so.

BENGALURU:  Realtor and resort owner Ganesh H K (49), who is accused of shooting his wife and trying to kill himself and his children due to financial stress, broke down before the police on Friday and confessed that his plan to kill his children was thwarted by an innocent plea by his son. “I had decided to kill my family before ending my life. But when my son Siddarth questioned why I was killing them, I changed my mind. I then drove the car towards Magadi to go to one of my relative’s house”, he told the police on Friday.

A police officer said that during interrogation, Ganesh claimed that the couple had decided to end their lives together after killing their three children. Financial stress is said to have led him to take this extreme step. After killing his wife Sahana (42), he drove his SUV to Woods Resort at Nettigere near Kaggalipura on Kanakapura Road where he shot two of their children, Siddarth (15) and Saakshi, (9) in a room. When Siddarth asked him why he was shooting them, Ganesh then put them in his car’s rear seat while he forced his specially-abled son Samith(13) to sit next to him in the car.

Samith was a mute spectator during Ganesh’s rampage in which he shot his wife and children one by one. At the resort, Ganesh first opened fire at his adopted daughter Saakshi. Siddarth immediately questioned his father’s act, but was shot in the hand. Ganesh had planned to kill Samith as well if Siddarth had not questioned him.

“He shot Sahana around 11.50am on Thursday. Samith was at home when he opened fire. Then, he went to the school and picked up Siddarth and Saakshi before reaching his resort. He had procured a licenced pistol in Hassan where he has a coffee estate”, the officer said.Police on Saturday produced Ganesh before a court which handed him over to judicial custody. “Since Ganesh is not in a state of mind to speak properly, we have decided not to take him into police custody at this stage,” an investigation officer said.

Relatives of Sahana performed her last rites in the city on Saturday. Siddarth and Saakshi are said to be out of danger. They are still recovering in a hospital on Konanakunte near JP Nagar. Samith is being looked after by Sahana’s parents in JP Nagar.Due to losses in business, Ganesh killed his wife Sahana as she reportedly stopped him from selling one of the properties. He had planned to pay off some debts with the money.

Children shifted to Manipal hospital
Bengaluru:
The two children of realtor Ganesh, who sustained gunshot wounds, were discharged from Astra superspeciality hospital in Konankunte on Saturday and taken to Manipal Hospital at Old Airport Road around 7.30 pm for further treatment. They are recovering in the ICU and were kept under observation, Manipal hospital staff said.  On Saturday morning, both children were out of danger and were responding positively to treatment. “The family requested us to discharge the children as they wanted to shift them to Manipal hospital for further treatment.

They were active during the discharge procedure. However, they did not seem to have recovered completely from the shock of the entire incident,” Dr Sridhar Ramakrishna of Astra hospital told TNIE.  According to Dr Sridhar, the children were brought to Astra hospital only around 12.30 pm. “Their blood pressure was low and after scans were performed, the operation to remove the bullets started immediately. Dr Shivakumar was also assisting in the operations on both children. It was a challenging operation as the bleeding had continued for a long time,” said Dr Sridhar. “There were two bullets lodged in each of the children,” he added.
