BENGALURU: It is said that there’s no such thing as a perfect crime but the family of the 30-year-old techie Kumar Ajitabh, and social workers believe otherwise. What’s happened with Ajitabh who went missing on December 18, they say, seems to be a ‘perfect’ crime as the investigating team has not been able to either spot him or his car.

The family has been demanding the case be transferred to the CBI. They are planning for a peaceful protest in the city after the next court hearing on July 2, if there are no developments in the case. “We are hoping to meet the Chief Minister personally and talk to him about the case. We would like our request to at least be considered,” says Pragya Sinha, sister of Ajitabh who started online petitions and social media pages seeking any information concerning her brother.

“The investigating team says they are yet to receive data from Google and WhatsApp but why is it taking so long? We cannot go to US and get the data,” says his brother Arnab addressing the media at a press conference on Friday. “We are spending sleepless nights. The criminal has successfully been able to take
advantage of technical loopholes in the system. We hope CBI will be able to help,” he adds.

FIR for kidnapping was lodged after a couple of days as the police initially suspected it to be only a missing case. Ajitabh’s brother-in-law Mimic Zadoo says, “We have been cooperating with the investigative team, providing them with all the information. His roommates, who are his childhood friends, found the ad post on olx (to sell his car after which he went missing) while looking at his laptop. It was suspected that the last guy who contacted him could be the suspect but after interrogation, it was ruled out.”

Family and friends of Ajitabh have been requesting the team to get details from RTOs across South India so that the engine number could be matched with recent cars. “Only a number or two might have been changed. The police can get owners details and question them. The FIR does not state the IPC section against the theft of the car and hence, we are unable to claim the insurance. The bank is calling his father asking to repay his car loan of `5 lakh. Drones and dog squad were used to investigate the spot after about 15 days,” he says.

A source from the investigating team says that the investigation is on. “We are looking at different angles. At present, we are also looking at the possibility of his association with a spiritual organisation. We are  searching for the vehicle and  doing analysis on the data collected from the website. We did analysis on the data we got from WhatsApp and Google but nothing substantial has come out,” says the source adding that they are also submitting periodic updates to the court.
